Front beam adjusters

Postby Jackie Bussey » 11 Tue May, 2010 5:48 pm

I see cheap adjusters on eBay- two for $21. My buggy will be street driven 90% of the time. The other 10% will be the beach at Padre Island. For the work involved in welding them in I want to use good quality items. I have a stock VW link pin beam and I am capable of welding them in properly. Anyone have feedback on different brand adjusters? Any suggestions? Thanks

Lots of people run the adjusters including me, Ive never had a problem. I don't know of one brand being any better then another, there probably all made in the same Chinese factory no matter what the brand name is.

I have found that if you weld in only one adjuster in at a time it's easier to keep the beam straight. As apposed to cutting the beam in half and then welding up the beam.
It's EASY.... if you know how.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm considering narrowing the beam at the same time. I'm not sure how much 1 1/2" to 2" each side. I am gathering the parts for four wheel disc brakes, using the 280zx discs (idea from blindchickenracing.com) Once that conversion is complete, I can take measurements to determine how much to narrow the beam. This will take awhile as I am only two weeks out of a double bypass. The disc conversion is months down the road, but if anyone is interested I will take photos.

Oh ya, I want to see some pics of this conversion, I'm sure others will too.
Best of luck on the healing prossess.

Make sure your shock towers clear your body before you start cutting. That seems like alot to narrow the front beam on most standard fiberglass bodies. Every body is very unique so just be sure to check yours first.

That was the first thing I checked. I will have to modify the body some, but that section is under the "hood", so the modification will not show and will not interfere with the gas tank. Thanks

Jackie,
What style buggy do you have? I don't think Manx style buggies have enough room to narrow them that much. Is your tank in the rear?

Sorry for the delay in my reply, health problems. Yes it is a Manx style, and after looking clasely, I may not need to narrow it; but if I do I have over 40 years of fab and mod work behind me. Nothing like a little ole gas tank and some fiberglass work can stop me
