I got it to run for a minute last night

Now I need to get another 30 PICT carb to replace this leaker I have. If anyone has one close by let me know. Bill those plates stay on the car, sorry.

Hey Brian, I have that newly rebuilt H30-31 carb you can try on your car. I was planning to bring it to the Blast for you to try, but you can sure get it before hand. My only problem is I'm covered in meetings the remainder of this week and can't get up your way. If you can come by sometime I'll have it here.

OK, it will not be a running and driving Buggy for the Blast. I just dont have the time being the end of the month and everything. My starter gave up which is understandable seeing as it's a 6 volt starter on a 12 volt system. I guess with all the cranking to get this thing started it was too much for it. I will bring it to the Blast for people to see in person the progress so far and enjoy the company. If I can come up with some parts maybe we could put our collective knowledge together and at least get to going enough to drive it back on the trailer after the show :oops:

Also the crappy(new) shift coupler wont tighten up :evil:

so that is no good as well.
On the brighter side my 1835 should be up to long block status by the time I head home from the Blast. I'll pick it up in Waco. My son is building it in his dorm :shock:

Being that I am not a bonafied backyard mechanic I am not sure what all will be involved. It did run for a minute or two with the old carb. I have Bills carb on there now but the motor drags quite a bit trying to start. The starter is pretty warm, the coil is warm/hot. I need someone to look at my wiring of all the engine components and check all the little things that will make it run. Hard to do by yourself in the garage without someone turning the key.

Brian,

Why flywheel and tranny are you running? It could be the bushing if you got the wrong starter/tranny/bushing combo.

I changed out the bushing to use the 6volt starter in the 12 volt trans which is still 180mm. Like I said I had it running briefly a couple of nights ago. I'll look at it some more tonight. Thanks for the idea though.

Thanks goes out to Mr Porter for helping diagnose the buggy. After changing a couple of wires around the buggy RUNS 8-)

Now it just needs some fine tuning and I'll be ridin down the street.

Well it now runs. Idles. But still could use some expert tuning. Spent two hours with the clutch cable shortening kit and still not working right. I think I'll make my own. Need to install the DS outer tie-rod tonight as well. How did you all shorten your clutch cables?

Drove it around the neighborhood a couple of times on Saturday. It then died. Ended up putting an electric fuel pump on it now I have some more starter problems. Just got out of the hospital after a couple of days so tomorrow I'll take a closer look and get it running. There is a car show sunday in(or Saturday?) Katy that I want to bring it to.

Still having issues with getting it running. Have driven it around the block a few times. Put a new starter on, wow what a difference. Only $40 at O'Reilly's. In between trips to the ER and doctor we get done what we can.

Mook came by last night and we hopefully got this thing to run for longer than 20min. I'll try it out this evening. Hopefully Saturday weather permitting we'll be headed to 59 diner at I-10 &Fry for the West Houston Muscle cars get together.

Hey Brian,
I'll bet a big part of us has been where you are in the frustration thing. Contrary to what the general public thinks, these are not simple cars. Unfortunately, most people think you buy a "Kit Car" and put this thing together in a couple of weekends. What we are doing is building "Homemade" cars, and that's a complicated endeavor. I know I went through a lot disappointments before I got my car where I wanted it to be.
Hang in there. The rewards of driving a Dune Buggy are worth the bumps in the road that surely come our way during construction.

On a hunch I blocked off the heat risers and it now runs decent. I'll be running it all afternoon and if it stays running I am going to run up to 59 Diner. :mrgreen:

Actually drove it around yesterday. Blocking the heat risers did the trick. As Bryan said I probably fixed a leak on the intake side. That worked for about three time around the Subdivision then it died. Found there was trash in the Carb. Blew out the orifices and no problems. Just needs some fine tuning and fix some small issues. Still have to hook up the speedometer and put the wipers in. My son is painting the side pods so they should be on in a couple of weeks. 8-)

OK. The pods are on. Pretty much done with the hard part. Just have to install the wipers and fix a leaky master cylinder resevoir and I'm good to go.

In case you guy's have not been on the other sites lately here is a little project I did this past weekend. Put some Miata seats in. They fit WAY better than the others and fit the look that I was after as well.

The hard line from front to back I used tubing clips and hung it along the inside of the tunnel wall. When I went to a rubber line I just zip tied it to the hard line.

The motor fell off the back of the buggy this weekend!!!!!!!!! Not really, just coming out for freshining. I might just end up going back all new 1914?
New case,P+C's, heads,crank,cam, clutch, exhaust. Parts are on order. I'll update as I go.
