ok, here ya go.
it is a 3 coat system and the paint was waaaay more expensive than anything the painter had ever delt with.
there was a primer that was done last week with a little bit more body work touch up here and there.
unfortunately I did not get by the painters to get a pic of it.
this morning he had the base coat down. an orange very similar to a traffic cone.
Image
then when I came back later in the day he had already layed down the pearls, painted the under body black and done like 6 coats of clear he said.
Image
I am gonna let it dry a little more over there and pick it up tomorow after work. cant wait to set it on the chassis. I have been getting everything prepped to set it on there.
WHOOO its getting exciting.

got the body home today.
thanks for the help unloading it and everything Brian.
Trying to decide what I should focus my energy on next.
probably going to concentrate on getting it registered and everything next. then I need to get a windshield and some seat belts. and still waiting for my headlights to arrive.
once those things are done. I will go about running wire and all the nitty gritty.
not much left to do.
Brian took some pictures of the unloading. he should prolly be posting them soon.

Shawn. I used a company called westhouston fiberglass for my bodywork, the prices were reasonable and it was done in 3 days.
the paint was done by a guy I work with.

Brian, I got my air cleaner conundrum worked out so I plan on bolting the body down this weekend. and putting that cage in. It would be great to have a second set of hands and eyes to keep anything from getting scratched.

tape a hundred times or scratch it once. your choice

I have been doing my wiring harness for the last 4 days. It is pretty much done. just gotta hook everything up. I have to say, it looks pretty good.
I got a 14 pin connector I had lying around at work and wired it up so I have most of my switches and everything on the hood hooked up to it. should make it a little easier to remove the hood in the future.
here is a pic of it in the works.
Image

went to the glass shop today and got a new windshield cut. just gotta clean up the frame and throw it together.
Image

like I said before my deadline is 4th of July. and I think I may make it. I will probably end up waking up super early on sunday to finish assembly.

it wont be finished of course, but it will be on the road and driving.

WELL...............

I met my deadline!
I got it driving at about 4pm yesterday. took it to the gas station, no problems filled it up and drove it round the neighborhood. then when coasting to a stop it died.
started, ran and then died again. limped it home.
figured I needed a vent for the tank, so I made one.
still did the same thing.
tightened intake mani.
still did the same thing.
adjusted carb again and again and again
still same thing.
found the choke opening too far. adjusted it.
IT RUNS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
haha.
still got a high idle, but i think I know why, i was just so excited I went and drove it around and will worry about a slightly high idle later.
drove it to my girlfriends house. gave some people a ride. drove to my parents house, gave some people a ride. drove it home and went to the fire works show.
whew! I am buggy burnt out! I dont even wanna mess with it today.

Do you have an amp meter in the dash? Do you have an idiot light in the dash? Check ground of the alt when you get it back in.

Yep there is a lot of info on the Samba about only using the bosh alternators I have run across that info a few times sorry you found out the hard way.

Also make sure you ARE NOT using red poly bushing to connect the steering column to the steering gear box. They have a know issue of breaking while driving very dangerous.

yup, got it all back together went and drove it a bit.
a tweak tweak here and a tweak tweak there
just getting all the small little bugs worked out of it now.
sure is fun to drive!
I found out also by talking to a guy at Rickys place that if the filment is burnt out on your GEN light then your alt/gen wont charge. DOUBLE BAD!
I don't really like that so I just bypassed the GEN bulb

Found this explanation for why you need the idiot light:
When you turn on the key, 12V is applied to one wire of the idiot light. Since the other wire is tied to "D+" and the motor is not turning (the alternator is not charging yet) "D+" acts like ground. This allows a little current to flow in the circuit, the bulb glows and your brain says "engine not running, alternator not charging, or belt just got tossed". When the motor cranks, the alternator starts working, "D+" goes "open circuit" (just like opening a switch) and the current flow stops, thus the light goes out. Lo Cash John
The idiot light is needed to get the alt/gen to start charging.

Correct...no idiot light...no alternator charging. And it can't be a stand alone LED...not enough resistance.

There is no "option" of installing a light. Without it your fears of being left stranded because your alternator is not charging are not just possible...they are guaranteed.

Wire one in...and use it. When you turn the key to the "on" position it should light up. When you start the engine it will stay on. It should go off when you rev the engine above 2000 rpm. Thats the way it was designed to work...and only that way.

Not trying horn in on Mook's thread but who ever wired my Buggy did a horrable job. So when my voltage regulator went out and I tried get it to charge again nothing worked. Followed every step in the Idiots book to the letter and still nothing. So as a last resort I removed the bulb to start ringing out the wires and it started charging without the bulb. Put the bulb back in and it quit charging. So now I dont use a bulb and havent in years and its still charging. I would love to use the bulb but I cant. Anybody got any ideas?

I think KIM-P catches my drift.
its not that I dont have a wire. i just dont have the bulb.
it is a direct circuit from ACC+ to the alternator
my alternator is charging great with the engine running. it charged just the same when I was going through the bulb, I just bypassed it.

I will ask a good question, What is going to tell you when you lose a fan belt? Other than you will lock the engine up long before you run out of battery. If all you want is a trailer queen don't worry about an alt light.

KIM-P...do you have an alternator or a generator?

Mook...You have a direct line from the ACC+ on the switch to the alternator? You do realize the D+ is grounded at rest right? If you turn the key to the ACC position your gonna have some potential for a serious electrical meltdown. + power comes into the switch from the battery and when you turn the key to the ACC position the + power goes into that screw. With a ground signal from the alternator your looking at meltdown. Serious...serious meltdown. Please be careful.

So the reason for the bulb is to put a load on the circuit??? I was thinking that the load of the exciter on the alt would be enough.
I guess I could wire up a couple of bulbs in parallel so that I dont worry about relying on one bulb.

Generator. And I have a wire with a bulb socket that is pluged into the back of my speedo. It just want charge with the bulb in. Might be the bad wire job from the P.O. A new wire harness will be my next prolect.

Yes.

Also, burning the bulb out and not realizing it is really a non-issue. You turn the key to "on" position and it lights up. You start your engine, it stays lit. You rev it up to about 2000 rpm, and it goes out.

If it doesn't light up when you start the buggy you have a bad bulb. If it stays lit after you jab the throttle you have a failed charging system.

You can run an amp meter with a gen, Do not put a amp meter on an alt. Will burn the alt out in seconds.
