Frontloader's wife's DB

Postby Frontloader » 21 Fri Jan, 2011 11:55 am

Hi! everyone! This is Margaret K and I have my unfinished DB loaded up to take it to a very reputable mechanic, who has lots of experience with buggies. His back has gone out and is awaiting sursgery - SOOOOOOO I am looking for another person to take it to.
Bill K had once told me of a man in Van Vleck who restored them, but I do not have a name or phone number. Can anyone help me with this? Or maybe even give me a name of someone else who lives relatively close to Lake Jackson. I also need Bill K's phone number.
Thank you in advance for the help. Marg.

Maybe one question to ask is what is needed? Does it require mechanical restoration? ie brakes, motor work? Does it require body repair? Interior? Wiring? Complete restoration? This might help with the decision on who could help most. Good luck with your search.
If you PM Bill he'll get back to you pretty quick.

Thank you for your response.
Ed had finished painting the body - had finished the wiring, but had not connected the headlights, wipers, and other items on the dash. We think he had done all the motor work and it is ready to be put back on. The intake and the exhaust pipes need to be installed. It has a VW bus back trans-axel (for power to climb mountains) It had been recently painted which indicates that the back axel was in working condition. The gas tank has not been installed and the seats have not been reupholstered. (Do I buy new seats or reupholser the old?) The man in Angleton had said that the seats were in good condition, just needing to be cleaned and upholstered. He had bought new seat belts, a musical horn?, and numerous other items. My son and I have boxed up all the parts that we could find. There are probably other parts that are still needed to be purchased.

I talked to Bill and when he returns, he will give me the man's name in Van Vleck and his phone number. My son and I will take it over there and see what he thinks sometime this week or maybe next weekend.

If anyone has any other suggestions for me, please post. I will continue to check for responses. I have enjoyed reading some of the posts. I really do enjoy this website and will keep reading. Frontloader's wife.

Hey Marg, why not host a buggy building weekend. There should be enough help here on the board that we could tackle quite a bit of the assembly. Beer and pizza goes a long way.

So, is anyone up to going down to Brazoria to lend a hand? Even if its just to help decide what actually needs to be done, maybe do some of the little things. Send me a PM if you are interested in helping out.

Margaret, could you please post your phone number or give me a call. I'm sorry, but I've missplaced your phone number.

I've exhanged emails with Margaret. I've put her in touch with a guy that lives near her that may be able to help her get the car together if he is still in business.
Also, she is going to send me some photos so we can help her assess what will be needed to get the buggy back on the road.

-Thank you everyone for the suggestions.

I'm not sure how to take good pictures of it so you can tell anything about it. I certainly do not know how to post them on the website. There is a man in Friendswood that I am trying to reach by phone. My remodeling job just got bigger (has taken on a life of it's own) and I need the space in the garage where the DB is to move stuff from the house. I may just put it in storage during this remodeling project . . . of course, I still have to get it there and I do not have a trailer for it yet.

I'm following up on some of your suggestions:
My phone number is 979-265-9602 and my cell is 979-236-6807.
The man in Van Vleck is no longer in service "Big Bob's Bugs".

I'll keep you posted on the DB project and will try to get some pictures to you. . . somehow!
