I've heard the universal harness usually ends up being redone by the end user. If you don't want to build your own from scratch (like Cory said, not all that hard for a buggy), the Rebel harness is probably worth the bucks. Even with that, expect to need to extend some wires and add grounding busses front and rear.

I bought the Rebel wire VW bug universal kit. So far Ive only had to lengthen the backup wire and the oil pressure wire but I just got started. This harness has larger then stock gage wire and just barely fit in the 3/4 inch conduit Im using. At 186.99 plus S&H its still cheaper then the painless system by half. My total was $202.
Besides the EMPI universal harness looks too cheesy to me. And you get what you pay for.
It's EASY.... if you know how.

I used the buggy harness on three buggies builds the one sold under many names with 6 fuse & bag of wires, for a basic buggy it's all you need and comes with a very simple wire diagram. If your going to run a stereo with an amp or other accessories go with something else. no matter what harness you use you'll be adding ground wires and modifying a few things.
