Linda and I are headed to Beaver's Bend State Park in western Oklahoma. We're taking the Buggy and hope to drive the Talamena Parkway into Arkansas. Rowdy Rush says that's a great drive.

I was at Talihina State Park in OK this weekend at a Moto Guzzi campout, but I didn't get there until late Saturday. Coming home this morning, I rode from Talihina across to Hwy 259 on the "Bigfoot" Road, don't remember right off hand the real name of it but it was a nice winding road up & down the mountains. Last time I was on that road I saw a bear! Stayed on Hwy 259 down to Broken Bow where I took the "old road" to Idabel. I was on Hwy 259 passing Beaver's Bend around 10:30 or 11:00 this morning.

I missed out on riding the Talimena scenic byway this trip. I'll have to make a quickie weekday run up there soon.

Dang it, dang it, dang it. I forgot my camera! But here's a picture of a bridge on the "old road" that I stole from some Arkansans who rode on it last weekend, going home from my little shindig.

Georganne,

That's amazing that you were just where we will hopefully be tomorrow.

The Talimena Parkway actually starts in Talihina so you were probably on a part of it when you went to Hwy 259, right?

We have three nights at the Lake Lodge at Hochatown State Park just north of Beaver's Bend. I hope to go north on 259 to the Parkway and then eastward on the Parkway to Mena. If weather and time permits I'd also like to make a run westward toward Talihina. After the Lodge we have a night at the Queen Willamena Lodge on the Parkway. Then we're going over to Lake Degray Lodge in Arkasas and hopefully some runs on Hwy 7.

Thanks for raising my excitement level a notch or two.

We were camped near the entrance of the Talimena Road, but we didn't ride on it. We took the "Big Foot" or "Indian Hwy" to Honobia, which is just at the south edge (?)of Talihina, exiting off Hwy 271. From Honobia, we stayed straight all the way to Bethel which is at Hwy 259. If you get a chance, ride this Hwy also. It is paved all the way through now & is a really nice scenic winding road. Be careful though or you just might run into Big Foot!!

(note: use caution with this link, I got a warning when I clicked on it, admin)

Hope you're enjoying all that beautiful scenery up there!

Linda and I are currently at the Queen Wilhelmina Lodge in the Ouachita Mountains and it is the second highest point in Arkansas. We have been running the Parkway in both directions from the Lodge and the vistas are fantastic and the Parkway equally fun to drive in a Buggy.

I hope you took the train around the mountain at the lodge. It's a beautiful little ride, especially this time of the year. :)

They didn't fire up the train until the morning we were leaving. :( :(

We put about 250 miles on the Buggy and here are a few photos from the trip:
