Optima battery?

Postby Buzzfagan » 29 Sun May, 2016 11:15 am

I have been recommended to get a Red Optima battery for my Manx style build. Already bought a mount for it now just need to figure out which one of the several choices from the Red Optima series is best for a buggy. Anyone have any suggestions?

I assume you have a 12v and not a 6v system, right.
An Optima Red Top is a lot of battery. Since you already have a mount, you can essentially "pick one" and you'll be fine.
Buggies do not need a lot of cold cranking amps, they do not have a lot of amps being pulled unless you have an insane amount of off-road lights or a genuinely thumping sound system. There are guys with buggies that run lawn mower/tractor batteries and done great.
Once the buggy is started, you're essentially running off the alternator/generator anyway.
I had a red top in mine for a while. One year, I used it to run the buggy and a 400 watt inverter to run some Christmas lights in a parade.
I switched to an Odyssey PC 680 because of the size (I know they're expensive, but they're small and light.)
So really, pick a car, year, make and model and go for it. The red top will do you well and they hold a charge for a long time.
