"Das Black Beauty" "68 Manx Project Underway ( windshield)

Postby Das Li'l Beast » 22 Fri Jul, 2016 3:16 pm

"Das Black Beauty", windshield was traced from a TYPE I and then chopped. The oak laminated cut in my San Leon, TX woodshop and will be covered in resin finish, before build primer applied. I'll probably take the San Jacinto Auto Body course again, to use their finish paint booths. Instructors always are available too when help is needed, with courses costing approx. $300. You could not find a booth to rent in Houston for that

"Das Black Beauty" "68 Manx Project Underway (side pods)

Postby Das Li'l Beast » 22 Fri Jul, 2016 3:26 pm

Myers Manx fluted side pods cost me more including shipping than I spent on the entire tub. Had to have them, and Winnie took a couple of weeks to get them out but they did arrive in good condition. They fit sort of O.K. but will need more work to glass to the tub and then work on install of custom stainless steel mesh or the vent openings.

'68 Manx Build "Das Black Beauty" (tail section)

Postby Das Li'l Beast » 22 Fri Jul, 2016 3:38 pm

I cut and reworked the damaged, approx. 18" opening to 31" opening much like the new Manx traditional body to allow for dual carbs and show more of the future engine compartment. I used treated wood, cut/shaped and glassed in with filler. The new Gorilla industrial chaulk ($7.50 tube) works extremely well to glue up different materials. (like wood to glass).

Heath, thanks for the interest. The body is 90% complete & in primer. In March, the 1968 pan will be shortened, beefed up. I think, I'll keep the photos under raps for the moment. Not sure when it will be done (money-pay as I go). I have the time being "semi-retired", these days.

Big top secret project, I'm looking forward to seeing it when you are ready to unveil it. I'm willing to bet it will be black.
