Texas Senate Bill 1588

The elimination of annual safety inspections!!!
Man, won't this be awesome?????

I know it doesn't fix the issues with the TMV Registration Manual in regards to our cars, but it sure doesn't sound like it going to be a bad thing for us either.

I don't know. I was surprised to find we are 1 of only 17 states that still require a annual or biennially safety inspection.
Yup 33 states have already done away with them.

Oklahoma does not have inspections but I am told if ever stopped everything had better be in good working order.

Studies have shown there is no higher incidence of vehicle failure accidents in States without inspections than in States with inspections.

Well, I'm surprised. The Bill came out of the Senate favorably, went to a House Committee and came out favorably and when it is voted on in the House, if it passes it will go into effect March of 2018.

However, there will still be a fee to pay. I knew the State would not give up that revenue stream.

But, for us living in what are called "Non-Attainment" counties, we will still have to have emissions testing. But, after you have spent $100 in repairs to try to fix the emissions problem, your vehicle is allowed to a pass.

Just got my coach inspected this morning with the guy I've used for years. This subject came up and he told me this would be the last time I'd need this inspection. He told me he had already been told "they" were doing away with them. My neighbor said the same thing; he drives a truck and he said if you get stopped and everything doesn't work, the DOT violation will cost a lot more than the inspection ever did. Who knows..

It still needs to be voted on in the House, but looking at how well the Bill has tracked through the process I would guess it will pass and the Governor will sign it.
