The steering columns I have come up with were to fill a need for those of us wanting to be able to run turn signals on a column and have the quick connect feature on the steering wheel also. I used my buggy[make unknown] and the new Hawkeye body I am building to come up with dimensions that will cover most car bodies[ Manx type]. The total length of the column is 36". The lower end is blank 3/4" shaft for you to weld your appropriate fitting to or I can supply, as an option, a part for you to weld up and fit to the stock vw steering joint. The column from the wheel mount flange on top [supported by an oillite bronz bushing] to the bottom firewall area is 30". This should give about 1" to 3" protruding thru the firewall on most applications with an additional 6" of blank shaft beyond that to make the steering box hookup. An optional polished trim plate finishes this off nicely. Upper column mounts vary by car but JD Davis was able to use a 1 3/4" stainless U bolt from LOWE's to make his upper mount. An optional spring loaded horn contact is available for those wanting to put the horn button on the column. Any length of column can be made for your requirements and custom wheel adapters can also be designed. I will have the columns in Fredricksburg for your inspection. There will be several cars sporting them as well. Thanks Johnny B.
