Small City!

Postby Faron » 26 Sun Feb, 2012 12:23 am

I am sorry, I have got to rant! Albuquerque is so darn small, I am so sick and tired of having to order everything for my Buggy. I drove all over town looking for a shop that would press in a set of wheel studs. No one had the 20 matching that I need, and most didn't have the tools needed to do the job. I was even going to brake shops. I finally had to order the parts that I need, and because of that nothing got done on my Buggy this weekend. I am really starting to worry that I will not be able to finish this thing by April 15, so that I can take it to the Texas VW Classic in Frederisksberg April 21st, & 22nd. Its the little things that come up that are a pain in the neck. Arrggg

buy a harbor freight 20 ton press and a set of their 3/4" Sockets - Viola!!! Everything you need to press in wheel studs, and you can turn very big bolts/nuts too!

I am surprised the local shops didn't have a press... maybe they were just being lazy because it is hard to charge you for 5 minutes of work.

Last time I had to buy wheel studs I ended up having to order them in too - but I needed a very specific application and had to look them up in the Dorman catalog.

I think I am going to use these rotors: (Clicky) when it comes time to get my Fiera rollin'

You should have paid the $40 a wheel to have it done where you bought them from. Sounds expensive but in the end you are ahead time wise.

I thought about going with the Harbor Freight idea, but no one in the city had 20 matching wheel studs.

:P I told you so! :P :P I told you so! :P I can see you doing this now, and I don't even know what you look like. LOL
You are correct, and I had every intention to do so but I had not figured out what I was going to use as wheels yet. I bought a Brake Conversion that has both 5 X 4.5" as well as 5 X 4.75" bolt patterns. On top of that I ordered them online and didn't see the option until after it was to late. More proof that hind site is 20 20. SIGH

Nah, not me. I just remembered when I was looking at putting discs on mine I saw that option and decided that I did not need disc brakes if I had to spend $500 on each end of the buggy. Drums work fine for me. Keep at it as I expect to tell you " I told you so" in person!!! At the classic
